Major Conferences Yet to Decide On Affiliation With ATA

With 14 months to go before the Jan. 1, 2001, deadline for ATA’s affiliated conferences to decide whether to remain with the parent organization, several of the largest groups have yet to make up their minds.

The biggest issue is the requirement that carriers belong to ATA as a prerequisite to joining an affiliated conference.

The Truckload Carriers Association does not plan to vote on ATA affiliation until next October, said TCA President Lana R. Batts. While slightly less than half of TCA’s 1,000 members also belong to ATA, they comprise the majority of the truckload association’s dues dollars, said ATA President Walter B. McCormick Jr.

“ATA has already attracted from TCA 75% of the dues revenue potential. “I am very optimistic that the remaining TCA members will see the value of ATA,” McCormick said.
