Marten Reports Higher Second-Quarter Income

Refrigerated truckload carrier Marten Transport’s second-quarter net income rose 29.1% to $4.5 million, or 20 cents a share, from $3.5 million, or 16 cents, a year ago.

Operating revenue from trucking and logistics operations fell 21.4%, to $125.8 million, the company said late Tuesday.

Operating revenue from trucking and logistics operations fell 14.9%, to $122 million, and the decline was due primarily to fuel surcharge revenue falling to $12.6 million from $40.1 million a year ago, when diesel was at a historic high level.

Purchased transportation fell 17.1% to $25.9 million, from $31.3 million in the same quarter last year.

Marten is ranked No. 44 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
