Marten’s Second-Quarter Earnings Drop

Refrigerated truckload carrier Marten Transport’s second-quarter net income plunged 42% due to lower freight rates and reduced revenue per truckload.

Net income fell to $4.3 million or 20 cents a share, from $7.5 million or 34 cents a year ago, Marten said late Monday.

Operating revenue from trucking and logistics operations gained 5.3% to $138.8 million.

Truckload revenue rose 1.2% to $123.7 million, while logistics revenue, including brokerage and intermodal operations, jumped 57% to $15.1 million.

Marten is ranked No. 51 on the 2007 Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
