Maryland Releases First Freight Transportation Plan

With freight shipments expected to grow by 75% in the state by 2030, the Maryland Department of Transportation has authored the state’s first freight plan.

The 132-page document addresses everything from highways and ports to rail and truck intermodal facilities and catalogues the improvements needed to keep freight moving in a global economy.

According to the plan, truck tonnage in Maryland is expected to rise from nearly 600 million tons in 2006 to 1.2 billion in 2035.
