Maryland Truck Tolls to Double by 2013
Commercial truckers will pay twice as much in tolls at the Baltimore Harbor crossings by July 2013 under a plan approved this week by the Maryland Transportation Authority.
At the Fort McHenry Tunnel (I-95, I-395), Baltimore Harbor Tunnel (I-895) and Francis Scott Key Bridge (I-695), the current $12 toll for five-axle vehicles will rise to $18 in January and then increase to $24 in July 2013.
At the JFK Highway (I-95) and Hatem Memorial Bridge (US 40), the current $30 toll for five axles will increase to $36 in January and $48 in July 2013.
Five-axle truck tolls at the Harry W. Nice Bridge (US 301) and William Preston Lane Jr. Memorial Bay Bridge (US 50/301) will rise from $15 to $24 in January and jump to $36 in July 2013.
Tolls will also increase for cars.
MDTA said the plan is projected to generate about $90 million in its first full year to pay debt for rehabilitating aging bridges, tunnels and highways and for constructing additional highway capacity in the Baltimore and Washington regions.
