Maverick Acquires Marine Transport Inc.
Maverick USA Inc. said it acquired substantially all of the assets of Marine Transport Inc., which is based in Au Gres, Michigan, including about 25 tractors and 80 trailers.
Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
“We are very excited to make this addition to our dedicated service offerings and expand our service footprint in the boat and marine business,” Maverick President John Culp said in a statement.
Maverick USA ranks No. 74 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
MTI, founded in 1983, is a family owned dedicated boat-hauling company that services the nation’s largest manufacturer of luxury pontoon boats and runabouts, it said.
Wayne Bigelow, the founder and owner, will be retiring but his son, Bryan, has been integral in running the business and will join Maverick and continue to work out of MTI’s headquarters, Maverick said.
“As the trucking industry continues to focus on safety and improvements, increasing regulations continue to be introduced. With these changes and along with my desire to retire, our family has decided that our employees will be better served in a larger organization that can support the regulatory changes and continue to grow the business,” Wayne Bigelow said in a statement.
Maverick USA Inc. is the parent company of Maverick Transportation, based in Little Rock, Arkansas. Maverick said it operates over 1,600 units providing over the road and dedicated services to the flatbed, glass, and temperature controlled transportation markets throughout North America.
