McLeod Cuts Charges for EDI Service
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Anticipating a plummeting market rate for electronic data interchange, Tom McLeod Software is slashing by 50% the transaction fee for customers who use Kleinschmidt Inc.’s value-added network.
EDI is a standardized system that makes it possible for shippers and carriers to communicate electronically for load tendering, shipment status and freight billing.

The price cut, announced by company president Tom McLeod during a speech at the company’s users conference here Sept. 23, is expected to make it easier for smaller carriers that haul only a few loads a week to implement an EDI system.

Under the new fee plan, a carrier would pay $1,250 to offer each type of service to a given shipper.
