Mexican Carriers Likely to Dominate Border

WASHINGTON — Mexican truckers will dominate cross-border trucking in years to come because they are willing to do the same work for less money than their U.S. counterparts, according to transportation experts who spoke at a Transportation Research Board seminar last week.

“Mexican carriers will be dominant in border states where there are fewer language and cultural barriers,” said Donald J. Jauquet, director of employee relations at truckload carrier Schneider National in Green Bay, Wis.

Over time, shippers “will determine the future direction of international freight movement between the U.S. and Mexico,” Jauquet said.
