American Moving and Storage Association members will call on Congress to reform trucking regulations they say impact the industry.

At their annual advocacy day on Capitol Hill on Sept. 17, more than 100 executives and owners of trucking companies are scheduled to meet with lawmakers to ask them to back a permanent rollback of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s hours-of-service restart rule.

They also plan to advocate for reform of FMCSA’s Compliance, Safety, Accountability program, as well as establishing a household goods consumer protection working group.

Last year, Congress backed a temporary suspension of certain hours-of-service rules for truck drivers. This year, several transportation leaders have unveiled legislation aimed at overhauling the CSA program.

“The American Moving and Storage Association fights to roll back harmful regulations that unnecessarily increase costs on businesses while harming job growth and the ability to hire new workers,” said Dan Veoni, the group’s vice president of government affairs. “At the same time, we support strong consumer protections and our federal partners in removing criminals from the industry.”

The association consists of national van lines, independent movers and suppliers.
