Nafta Surface Trade Declines 1% in June
Surface trade among the United States, Canada and Mexico declined 1% in June from the same month last year and fell 4.9% from May, the Department of Transportation reported.
Trade among the North American Free Trade Agreement partners fell to $77.6 billion, DOT’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics said Wednesday in its monthly report.
Trucks carried 60.7% of the total value of the freight traded among the Nafta partners.
Trucks accounted for 56% of the $52.7 billion in trade with Canada and 66.8% of the $40.8 billion traded with Mexico.
Freight moved by rail, which accounted for 15.8% of total trade, dipped 0.7% year-over-year, BTS said.
Truck imports to the United States from the two countries declined 2% year-over-year to $27 billion, while exports dipped 0.7% to $30 billion.
Rail imports rose 4% to $9.7 billion, while exports fell 5.2% to $5 billion. Pipeline imports fell 3.4% to $5.4 billion, while exports increased 3.7% to $700 million.
