Nafta Surface Trade Drops 2.1% in February

Surface trade among the United States, Canada and Mexico fell 2.1% in February from the same month a year ago, the Department of Transportation said Wednesday.

Trade among the North American Free Trade Agreement partners fell to $72.6 billion, DOT’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics said in its monthly report.

Month-to-month trade, which is affected by seasonal factors, declined 1.9% from January, BTS said.

U.S.-Canada trade fell 2.4% year-over-year to $41.4 billion, while U.S.-Mexico trade declined 1.8% to $31.1 billion.



Truck imports to the United States from the two countries declined 4.1% year-over-year to $25 billion, and exports dipped 0.9% to $27.2 billion.

Rail imports rose 1.2% to $8.8 billion, while exports were unchanged at $4.8 billion. Pipeline imports dropped 3.9% to $5.8 billion, while exports declined 11% to $1 billion.
