Nafta Surface Trade Grows 6.6% in September
Surface trade among the United States, Canada and Mexico increased 6.6% in September, the Department of Transportation announced.
Trade among the North American Free Trade Agreement partners rose to $94.4 billion, DOT’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics said Dec. 9 in its monthly report.
Freight carried by trucks, trains and pipelines increased, while marine and air trade fell.
Trucks carried 59.4% of the freight by value among the Nafta nations, BTS said. Trucks accounted for 52.4% of the trade between the United States and Canada and 66% of the U.S.-Mexico trade.
Freight moved by rail, which was 16.1% of the total Nafta trade, grew 8.1% year-over-year, BTS said.
Truck imports to the United States from the two countries increased 5.7% to $27 billion, while exports grew 5.1% to $29.1 billion.
