Surface trade among the United States, Canada and Mexico rose 11% in June from a year ago, the Department of Transportation said Tuesday.

Trade among the North American Free Trade Agreement partners rose to $77.5 billion, DOT’s Bureau of Trade Statistics said in its monthly report.

U.S.-Canada trade rose 9.7% to $46.1 billion, while U.S.-Mexico trade gained 12.8% to $31.4 billion.

Trade increased 0.3% from May, DOT said, noting that month-to-month changes are affected by seasonal and other factors.

Truck imports to the United States rose 6.9% year-over-year to $26.2 billion, while exports rose 9.2% to $27.7 billion.

Rail imports gained 10.2% to $8 billion, while exports rose 17.8% to $4.5 billion. Pipeline imports increased 23.9% to $6.3 billion, while exports jumped 250.7% to $1.02 billion, DOT said.

Surface transportation consists largely of freight movements by truck, rail and pipeline. About 90% of U.S. trade among NAFTA partners moves by land.
