Navistar International Corp. has received a $2.5 million state tax credit to build an engineering center in Michigan for armored truck production, Bloomberg reported Tuesday.

The truck maker will add as many as 87 jobs and spend $4 million to create the center in Madison Heights, Mich., the company said.

The Michigan Economic Growth Authority approved the tax credit to encourage Navistar to choose the state over Indiana and Illinois, Bloomberg said. Navistar will get the credit over seven years.

Navistar produces armored trucks for the United States military. About 7,500 are currently in use.
