Navistar Picks New Vendor to Transport Vehicles

Navistar Inc. has shifted the vehicle delivery contract for its Springfield, Ohio, plant to Truck Movers.com after a contract with Auto Truck Transport, another haulaway carrier, expired, a Navistar spokesman said.

Roy Wiley of Navistar said the change was made when the contract with Auto Truck Transport ran out on Dec. 31. The contract began in 2004, and its expiration left 186 people at that company, according to local newspaper accounts.

The change in the contract means that Truck Movers, Kansas City, Mo., now is handling all of the new vehicle deliveries for Navistar, Warrenville, Ill., Wiley said.

“We just switched vendors,” Wiley said. “They [Truck Movers] have worked for us in other locations.”

Previously, Truck Movers handled deliveries only at Navistar’s manufacturing plants in Tulsa, Okla., and Garland, Texas.

The Springfield plant is the primary manufacturer of Navistar’s medium-duty truck line.

Wiley would not discuss terms of either the new or the expired contract, citing company policy not to discuss vendor relations.

Two months ago, Auto Truck Transport, a unit of Wisconsin-based JHT Holdings Inc., notified Ohio state officials of the potential loss of the jobs in order to comply with federal law regarding facilities that may be closed.
