Navistar Unveils Truck Designed for Disaster Relief Efforts
WASHINGTON — Navistar Inc. has introduced a versatile truck designed to aid disaster relief efforts across the globe.
The specialized truck is a Class 6 International DuraStar model outfitted with a vehicle-mounted water purifier, firefighting equipment and a mobile medical unit.
Navistar is offering the truck through a partnership with specialty-vehicle distributor Terranova GTS.
The companies unveiled the vehicle here Nov. 19 at the Aid and International Development Forum’s Disaster Relief Summit.
Tom Clevinger, senior vice president of Navistar’s global truck and bus business, described the multipurpose vehicle as the “first of its kind in the industry.”
The truck maker said the International DuraStar Multi-Purpose Vehicle was designed to handle a variety of needs, in response to emergencies and to support planned activities such as water-supply and medical campaigns.
Navistar said the water-treatment system removes particulate, turbidity, bacteria, virus and cyst from “virtually any water source” and can purify 5,000 gallons of drinking water per day.
“We’re proud to have developed this versatile, multipurpose vehicle, and we’re excited about its potential impact to provide humanitarian aid and support for crises around the world,” Clevinger added.
