LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Navistar Inc. has introduced the ProStar Plus, a lighter, more fuel-efficient version of its ProStar Class 8 tractor.
Fuel economy, driver environment and vehicle weight were the three areas of focus for the new model, said Jack Allen, president of Navistar’s North American Truck Group, during a press event at the Mid-America Trucking Show, being held here Thursday through Saturday.
The truck is powered by Navistar’s MaxxForce 11 and MaxxForce 13 engines, which feature the advanced exhaust gas circulation setup that Navistar is using to comply with the Environmental Protection Agency’s new emissions rules.
The ProStar Plus is 700 pounds lighter than the original ProStar, which debuted in 2006, Allen said. Additionally, the aerodynamics package on the ProStar Plus has been refined.
These changes, plus the light weight of graphite iron blocks of the MaxxForce engines, contribute to increased fuel economy for the ProStar Plus over the original model, Allen said.
Inside storage has been improved, with the Hi-Rise model seeing a 150% increase in captured storage and a 50% improvement in total storage.
