Navteq Will Add Red Lights to Speed-Camera Alert Sites

Navteq developed a red-light camera warning system that is being bundled into an existing speed-camera alert system, the company said.

The upgraded warning system, Navteq Camera Alert, can be downloaded to users’ Global Positioning System tracking devices from Navteq servers, the map maker said in a statement.

Camera Alert also includes the location of speed limit cameras. The system debuted in 2006.

Navteq, Chicago, said Camera Alert now includes the locations of about 5,000 North American red-light and speed-limit cameras.
Navteq’s maps are used in a number of GPS-based tracking devices, including several used by the trucking industry.

Garmin Ltd., Olathe, Kan., used Navteq’s mapping data in its Nuvi 465T, a personal navigation device designed for truckers.

ALK Technologies, a provider of routing software to the trucking industry, uses Navteq maps in its European operations. ALK, Princeton, N.J., developed its own maps for its North American business.
