New Jobless Claims Jump 37,000 for Week

Initial jobless claims fell by 21,000 last week, the Labor Department said Thursday.

The increase to 464,000 claims for the week ended Saturday exceeded economists’ forecasts of 445,000 new claims, Bloomberg reported.

The four-week moving average, a less volatile measure, grew to 465,000, from 454,750 the previous week.

Continuing claims for the previous week ended July 10 fell by 223,000 to 4.49 million.
