New World Van Lines Deploys Rand McNally HD100 Devices
New World Van Lines is equipping its fleet of household moving trucks with Rand McNally’s HD 100 devices, the companies said in a joint announcement.
The HD 100, which plugs into the truck’s diagnostics port and works in conjunction with an Android or iOS tablet or smartphone, provides electronic logging of drivers’ hours of service as well as vehicle diagnostics and driver performance information. That information also is available online to fleet managers through Rand McNally’s Web portal.
New World Van Lines said it needed a system that was easy to integrate across its nearly 250 tractor-trailers and straight trucks.
“Our drivers can quickly download an app to integrate their smartphone with the HD 100 for a seamless implementation,” said Justin Walsh, vice president of technology at the Chicago-based company. “This will make it easier for dispatchers to see if drivers are where they need to be.”
The implementation also will make New World Van Lines’ fleet compliant with the anticipated federal electronic logging mandate, the companies said.
Separately, Rand McNally last month released the 2016 edition of its printed Motor Carriers’ Road Atlas, which features updated maps and content.
Even with the growth of electronic in-cab navigation, the atlas continues to be a “trusted reference and essential backup” for truck drivers, Rand McNally CEO Stephen Fletcher said.
