New York City to Close Sections of Broadway

New York City officials plan to close to traffic seven midtown blocks of Broadway in Manhattan, Bloomberg News reported Thursday.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg said that the experimental program would block vehicular traffic from 47th to 42nd streets and 35th to 33rd streets in an attempt to reduce congestion, Bloomberg News said.

The new traffic pattern on Broadway, which cuts through midtown Manhattan diagonally, will reduce travel times throughout the borough, city officials said.

Construction for the pilot program will begin Memorial Day weekend and be completed by September, Bloomberg News said.
