Mesilla Valley Transportation Solutions, a provider of fuel economy testing and design and development services for the trucking industry, announced that the NextGen EkoStinger, an aerodynamic fairing for Class 8 tractor-trailers, boosted fuel mileage.

Testing in November 2021 demonstrated that the technology resulted in a fuel savings of 5.72 gallons per 1,000 miles, or 5.3%, according to MVTS.

The new one-piece design with polyethylene sits underneath the trailer in front of the rear wheels and slides with varying tandem positions. It is 2 feet shorter and weighs less compared with the predecessor. It is partially open, allowing a sightline to the bottom of the trailer and easier access for inspection.
