Matthew Godlewski, president of NGVAmerica, will step down in May to take a position at Ford Motor Co. headquarters in Dearborn, Mich.

NGVAmerica, a trade association representing advocates of the use of natural gas and biomethane as transportation fuels, announced his imminent departure. Godlewski announced his departure to the NGVAmerica board in April, the group said.

The board appointed Kathryn Clay, vice president for policy at the American Gas Association as NGVAmerica’s interim executive director, effective May 15, the Washington, D.C.-based group said.

Clay will lead the day-to-day oversight of the organization during the transition period to a new president while continuing with AGA. She also was recently appointed to the NGVAmerica board executive committee.

“It has been a privilege to lead NGVAmerica during a period of significant change in both the natural gas and transportation industries,” Godlewski said in a statement. “Some of our nation’s most prominent companies have made deep and sustainable commitments to natural gas transportation. I am sad to be leaving this organization and my friends in the industry but excited to watch its inevitable continued expansion.”

NGVA also appointed Mitchell Pratt, chief operating officer of Clean Energy Fuels Corp., as board chairman. Pratt succeeds Gordon Exel of Westport Fuel Systems.

“NGVAmerica and its members have benefited tremendously from Matt’s vision and leadership during a difficult period,” Pratt said in a statement. “He has built a strong staff team that will continue the work ahead, and I am confident that we have a solid foundation from which to effectively serve all NGVAmerica members during the transition period.
