NITL Meets in San Antonio

Trucks, trains, ships and planes will be on the minds of the estimated 2,500 shippers who are gathering in San Antonio Nov. 14 to 17 for the 92nd annual meeting of the National Industrial Transportation League.

This year’s conference is focusing more on surface transportation than recent years, said NITL President Edward M. Emmett.

“We’re spending more time on those issues than we have in the past,” Emmett said. “We’ve spent an inordinate amount of time on the Conrail merger in the East, and we’ve tried to negotiate with the railroads on increased competition.

“In terms of motor carriers, we’ve had working groups dealing with driver retention issues, freight classification and liability, and truck sizes and weights.”
