NPTC Adds to Safety Wish List on Capitol Hill

The association representing private motor carrier fleets last week called on Congress to pass legislation that it said would improve trucking safety.

The National Private Truck Council wants proposals to create a motor carrier administration to include three additional items, its president, John McQuaid, said in a letter to Senate Commerce Committee Chairman John McCain.

The Arizona Republican is sponsoring a proposal to create a separate motor carrier administration. A similar proposal is awaiting approval by the full House of Representatives.

NPTC’s wish list includes requiring all motor carriers to periodically refile carrier census forms that provide the Department of Transportation with demographic information used to target potentially unsafe motor carriers for compliance reviews.
