2019 Preview
When: June 14-15, 2019
Where: B&C Trucking terminal in Aiea.
Field: About a dozen truck drivers are expected to compete in three categories.
Preview: Hawaii's field may be small in numbers but it will be long on talent and experience, as 2018 Grand Champion Steve Haskill will be back to defend his overall crown as well as his first-place finish in Step Van. He'll face a challenge from other prior state Grand Champions that includes Joel Ramos of Airgas, Randall Kaiwi of Hawaii Gas and Roger Randa of Pepsi Cola. Because of the small field, Hawaii is likely to only have nationals qualifiers in three events: 5-Axle, Straight Truck and Step Van.
The written exam will be held at Hawaii Transportation Association's offices in Honolulu on June 14. Pre-trip inspection and course competition will be held at the B&C Trucking Terminal in Aiea.
"The upcoming Hawaii Driving Championships showcases the skills of our best commercial motor vehicle drivers on a specially designed, closed course incorporating several real-world inspired 'problems,' " said TDC Chairman Ross Sasamura. "Through competition, we not only recognize high achievement, but also celebrate the level of professionalism and pride exhibited by Hawaii's drivers, their managers, supervisors and families. We look forward to a vigorous competition in Halawa Valley."
