NTSB Chairman Hall to Step Down

Jim Hall has resigned as chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board, effective Jan. 18. NTSB is an independent federal agency that investigates causes of transportation accidents and makes recommendations for corrective actions.

Hall believes President-elect Bush should appoint a chairman of his choosing, an NTSB staffer said.

Hall, who ran Al Gore’s Senate campaigns in Tennessee in the 1980s, had little transportation experience when President Clinton appointed him as an NTSB member in October 1993.

He was elevated to chairman in June 1994.
