Obama Nominates Hart to Lead NTSB
President Obama on June 26 nominated Christopher Hart to be the next chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board.
In a statement, the president said Hart and other nominees for top posts in his administration would “bring a depth of experience and tremendous dedication” to the positions.
Hart is the board’s vice chairman and has held that post since 2009. Before joining NTSB, he was deputy director for Air Traffic Safety Oversight from 2005 to 2009 at the Federal Aviation Administration. He also was the assistant administrator for system safety at FAA from 1995 to 2005. He earned degrees from Princeton University and a juris doctor from Harvard Law School.
If confirmed by the Senate, Hart would succeed Deborah Hersman, who stepped down in April to become CEO of the National Safety Council, an Illinois-based, nonprofit organization.
This summer, NTSB has indicated it would release a final report detailing the collapse of a bridge in Washington state in 2013 along Interstate 5. The board also is investigating a highly publicized traffic accident on the New Jersey Turnpike highway this month that killed one and injured television personality Tracy Morgan.
