President Obama Monday said the federal government’s stimulus plan was on track to help shore up the nation’s infrastructure, Bloomberg reported.
At the Department of Transportation, the president marked the plan’s 2,000th transportation project to receive funding under the $787 billion measure designed to help revive the U.S. economy, Bloomberg said.
Obama, who was joined by Vice President Joe Biden and DOT Secretary Ray LaHood, said competition for transport projects was so “fierce” that many were coming in under budget, Bloomberg reported.
By the end of next year, about 150,000 construction-related jobs, most in the private sector, will be saved, he said. The stimulus measure provides $48.1 billion for projects such as highways, bridges and mass transit.
