Old Dominion Freight Line on Wednesday raised its second-quarter and full-year earnings outlook, citing improved tonnage.

Second-quarter earnings-per-share will be 62 to 64 cents, above the consensus 51 cents-per-share estimate, the less-than-truckload carrier said in a statement.

“Contributing to the growth . . . were an increase in tonnage of 10.2% compared with the second quarter of 2007, a more stable pricing environment and improved productivity,” ODFL said.

It raised its earnings-per-share guidance for the full year to $1.90 to $1.95, from the previous range of $1.85 to $1.90.

ODFL, ranked No. 20 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers, will report its second-quarter earnings on July 24.
