Oil fell for a second day Wednesday as the dollar strengthened, dropping to below $72 a barrel, Bloomberg reported.

Crude futures fell 62 cents to close the New York Mercantile Exchange trading day at $71.43 a barrel, from Tuesday’s $72.05 closing price.

Futures topped $74 a barrel on Monday, near a 10-month high.

The Department of Energy said Wednesday that inventories of oil and distillates, which include diesel, both rose by less than 1 million barrels last week, while gasoline stockpiles declined by 1.7 million barrels.
