Oil prices rose Tuesday for the first time in six trading days to just under $73 a barrel as the dollar weakened against the euro, Bloomberg reported.

Crude futures rose 83 cents to $72.97 a barrel in early New York Mercantile Exchange trading, Bloomberg said.

Prices fell more than $6 last week in steady declines, from near $79 a barrel on June 25 to $72.14 on Friday. The Nymex was closed Monday for the Independence Day holiday.

The Department of Energy will release its weekly survey of diesel and gasoline retail prices Tuesday afternoon in Washington, a day later than usual because of the holiday Monday.
