Oil rose for a ninth straight trading day Tuesday, almost touching $82 a barrel for the first time in more than a year, Bloomberg reported.

Crude futures rose 26 cents to close the trading day at $81.77 on the New York Mercantile Exchange, the highest closing price since October 2008, Bloomberg reported.

Futures topped out at $81.99 Tuesday before receding. Oil closed over $81 just twice last year, also in October.

Prices had gained more than $2 Monday, and analysts attributed the recent climbs to cold weather and higher demand for heating oil, Bloomberg said.

Diesel and gasoline pump prices took their biggest jumps in two months Monday, with diesel reaching almost $2.80 a gallon.
