Oil Tops $74 a Barrel

Price Is Highest Since October

Oil rose to near a 10-month high over $74 a barrel Monday, as equity markets gained and on speculation the economy was beginning to show signs of recovery, Bloomberg reported.

Crude futures hit as high as $74.58 in early trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange, Bloomberg said.

Oil finished the trading week at $73.89 a barrel Friday on the Nymex, the highest closing price since October, Bloomberg reported.

The Energy Department comes out with its weekly survey of diesel and gasoline pump prices Monday afternoon in Washington.
