Orbcomm Purchases Satellite Data System from Comtech

Asset-tracking provider Orbcomm Inc. said it has acquired Comtech Mobile Data Corp.’s Satellite-Enabled Notification System.

Orbcomm’s purchase included SENS’ satellite hardware, network technology and Web platforms, Orbcomm said in an Oct. 1 statement. It provides one-way satellite communications using Globalstar’s low-orbit satellites.

“We see this market segment growing rapidly based on customers that can benefit from the Globalstar network’s reliable, low-power, low-cost, one-way satellite data service for short messaging along with its unique advantages in power management,” Orbcomm CEO Marc Eisenberg said in the statement.

Orbcomm will integrate SENS into its existing products and marketing, it said.

Orbcomm did not disclose terms of the deal.
