Oshkosh Reports 4Q Profit, Full-Year Loss

Specialty truck maker Oshkosh Corp. said Tuesday its fiscal fourth-quarter profit improved but it lost money for its full year.

Fourth-quarter profit rose to $140.3 million, or $1.68 a share, from $53.7 million, or 72 cents a share, a year ago.

For the full year, the company said it lost $1.1 billion, or $14.37 per share, compared with a profit of $79.3 million, or $1.06, a year ago.

Fourth-quarter earnings from continuing operations fell to $52.4 million, or 63 cents a share, from $62.4 million, or 84 cents. Quarterly sales fell 20% to $1.5 billion, due largely to increased defense sales.

Commercial segment sales fell 40.4% to $130.4 million, due largely to a 69% decline in sales of concrete placement products as a result of lower construction activity in North America and a 31% decrease in refuse vehicle sales.
