Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell (D) released results of a bipartisan poll that showed majorities of the state’s residents are concerned about transportation and back more funding of infrastructure projects.
The poll showed that 95% of people believed the quality of transportation infrastructure matters to the state’s economy and that 87% were concerned about the condition of roads and bridges, with 51% “very or extremely concerned.”
Majorities support revenue options to boost transportation funding, with 74% backing a new tax on oil companies’ profits of that would close existing loopholes to pay for transportation improvements, the poll said
Pennsylvanians also support increasing vehicle and driver fees in accord with inflation to fund transportation infrastructure needs, though by a smaller margin of 48%, versus 45% against.
The poll was conducted by Frank Luntz, a Republican and Fox News analyst, and Democratic pollster Jefrey Pollock.
