Pacer to Sell Heavy-Haul Business to Universal Truckload

Pacer International said that it will sell Pacer Transport, its specialized heavy-haul trucking business, to Universal Truckload Services.

Pacer Transport consists of approximately 130 agents, 480 owner-operators and 99 company trucks, Universal Truckload said in a statement Monday. It expects the acquisition to contribute approximately $30 million to $40 million in revenue, and that it will have no material effect on income in the third and fourth quarters.

Included within the acquisition is two real property leases and equipment leases, Pacer said.

The deal will likely close in August, Universal Truckload said. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Pacer International, which runs rail intermodal, less-than-truckload and warehousing operations, is ranked No. 16 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.

Universal Truckload ranks No. 39 on the Transport Topics 100.
