Penn. Conducts Three-Day Inspection Blitz

When Pennsylvania officials and representatives of the state’s trucking industry hit the streets for a coordinated safety check, they handed out free goodies as well as out-of-service tickets.

Pennsylvania Motor Carrier Enforcement officers inspected 340 trucks during a recent three-day safety effort, under the slogan, “Drive Your Best, Get Your Rest.”
The state police, Pennsylvania Motor Truck Association and Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s motor carrier enforcement agency staged a joint inspection blitz, billed as an educational event, July 10-12 on State Route 22. All 1,700 trucks that came down the road were pulled over, and 340 of them were checked over.

Of these, 144 were placed out of service, as were 14 drivers. Sixteen of the 24 trucks weighed were found to be running too heavy.

“A lot of the time the driver came in and said, ‘Please check my truck; the company won’t fix it,’ ” said Shawn E. Houck, a press officer with PennDOT.
