Penske Logistics Opens Refrigerated Warehouse for Kroger

Penske Logistics has opened a 606,000-square-foot refrigerated distribution center in Romulus, Mich.

The facility, which created 460 jobs, mainly will serve the distribution needs of its customer, The Kroger Co. of Michigan.

The facility opened June 4.

InSite Real Estate led construction of the $98.5 million facility, which began in the fall of 2017 and concluded in the fall of 2018, according to Penske Logistics.

The distribution center, referred to as the Michigan Fresh Center, will enable Kroger to supply store locations with fresher products. It is situated on approximately 47 acres with access to Interstate 275 and I-94.

The facility boasts 105 loading docks, minus 20-degree Fahrenheit freezers, 35-degree coolers, an ambient temperature section and space for commercial semi-trucks and trailers, according to Penske Logistics.

The company said it provides similar warehousing and distribution center management and trucking services to Kroger in other U.S. locations.

Penske Logistics ranks No. 19 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of for-hire carriers in North America.
