Platinum Equity has agreed to buy American Traffic Solutions, a company that provides red-light and speed safety cameras along with automated toll-payment and violation-management systems in the United States and Canada.
Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Based in Mesa, Ariz., American Traffic Solutions has more than 3,500 installed cameras on school bus stop arms and along roadsides to record violations of traffic laws. The ATS Fleet Services offers electronic toll-payment services using transponders or video cameras in 23 states and the province of Ontario in Canada.
James Tuton, ATS chairman and founder, said Platinum “will bring the resources and support services to take the company into the future.”
David Roberts, president and chief operating officer of ATS, said the move will benefit the company’s long-term strategic plans.
Platinum Equity is based in Los Angeles. Among the company’s other transportation and logistics holdings are barge operator American Commercial Lines, flatbed and heavy-haul freight carrier Keen Transport and residential and commercial delivery specialist MXD Group. The investment company also owns BlueLine Rental, a provider of construction equipment in North America.
