Polaris Transportation Group is expanding its head office in Mississauga, Ontario, as it grows to meet demand following its recent acquisition of trucking and warehousing hazmat specialists J.G. Drapeau Ltd. and Commercial Warehousing Ltd. Polaris expects to complete the expansion by the summer of 2018.

Polaris is the largest privately held cross-border less-than-truckload carrier in Canada. It owns a fleet of about 250 trailers and also works with owner-operators. Polaris operates scheduled LTL freight service between the United States and Canada along with freight brokerage services and U.S.-based distribution for Canadian shippers.

It offers a combination of direct service and freight interchanges with U.S.-based local and regional carriers, including Averitt Express Inc. and A. Duie Pyle Inc.

“We’ve made great progress with our cross-border LTL program, providing overnight service to destinations where two-day service is the norm. We have raised our profile internationally such that we can serve the North American distribution requirements of international clients,” Polaris President Dave Cox said in a release.

In May, Polaris announced the purchase of Drapeau and its sister firm Commercial Warehousing. Drapeau operates 60 trucks primarily hauling chemicals and hazardous materials. Polaris CEO Jon Saunders told Transport Topics the addition of Drapeau and Warehousing would generate revenue of C$100 million annually.

Polaris has said it is looking for further acquisitions with a focus on asset-light operations and specialized freight carriers.
