The Panama City Port Authority on July 20 moved forward with plans for its new East Terminal.

The first phase of the Port Panama City East Auxiliary Terminal, to be located adjacent to WestRock on South Everitt Avenue, will involve a fair amount of site work and railroad and road infrastructure. At the heart of the terminal will be a 150,000-foot modern warehouse.

The authority on July 20 approved of a construction, administration and engineering inspection contract with Mott MacDonald for $185,000 the new terminal, in addition to paying the firm $33,900 for engineering work tied to utility extension.

Board members also learned the Florida Department of Transportation has approved of the terminal, along with its highway and rail connectors, as an emerging Strategic Intermodal System facility, which opens the roads and railway system to more state and federal funding. The new SIS-designated highway extends along East Avenue from U.S. 231 to the east terminal’s entrance. The new designated rail corridor is an existing Bay Line Roadroad spur that connects to the East Terminal entrance.

Billy Perry, the senior vice president of Mott McDonald, said vertical construction of the new warehouse should begin in four months.
