Private Equity Firm Buys Atlanta Carrier

Private equity firm Navigation Capital Partners said Monday it has acquired James Brown Contracting and subsidiaries Brown Trucking Co. and JBT Brokerage.

Terms were not released. Navigation and VVS Capital, both of which are based in Atlanta, formed James Brown Holdings LP, as part of the transaction.

Brian Kinsey will become Brown’s chief executive officer and founder James Brown will continue in an executive role with the company.

He has experience in other trucking companies including Landstar System, CarrierPoint, Bennett Motor Express, Dobbs Houses and North American Van Lines. 



Founded in 1976, Lithonia, Ga.-based Brown is a dedicated freight carrier in the southeastern United States with terminals located in the Southeast and mid-South. It has a fleet of about 500 trucks and more than 3,000 trailers and is a dedicated freight transportation provider to the paper and packaging industry.
