Rep. Delaney to Promote Infrastructure Bill At Press Club June 26
Rep. John Delaney (D-Md.) will have a chance to promote his legislation that establishes a $50 billion infrastructure fund to boost highway projects when he appears at the National Press Club June 26.
The Maryland Democrat is scheduled to take part in a workshop featuring infrastructure advocates who are calling on the federal government to approve funding for transportation infrastructure modernization projects.
Last year Delaney introduced the "Partnership to Build America Act" a bill that creates a fund supported by the sale of $50 billion worth of infrastructure bonds, which would have a 50-year term and pay a fixed interest rate of 1%. Under the bill, the fund would be registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission. It also would require that at least 25 percent of the infrastructure projects be public-private partnerships, or P3s. The bill is backed by 41 Democrats and 42 Republicans.
In the Senate, Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) and Michael Bennet (D-Colo.), introduced legislation that would establish a $50 billion infrastructure fund financed with multinational companies’ repatriated foreign profits. Both bills have yet to be scheduled for committee consideration.
The Press Club events begins at 6 p.m.
