Rep. Wolf Ends Cirillo Probe

Rep. Frank Wolf (R-Va.) is no longer pursuing a criminal investigation of Office of Motor Carrier Safety chief Julie A. Cirillo.

Wolf, who has been one of the agency’s most vociferous detractors, asked the Transportation Department’s Office of Inspector General to look into an Oct. 4 memo that Cirillo sent staff updating them on how they would be affected by this year’s transportation appropriations bill.

"The inspector general’s office interviewed Ms. Cirillo based on that memo," said Jennifer Gavin, a spokeswoman for the inspector general. "We had a discussion with Chairman Wolf, and there was no further action on the matter."

Wolf, chairman of the House Transportation Appropriations Subcommittee, had inserted a provision in the legislation that cut off funding in October to the Office of Motor Carrier and Highway Safety if it remained within the Federal Highway Administration.
