Roadchecks Wrap Up Safety Week
International Highway Transportation Safety Week marries stepped-up enforcement efforts throughout North America with a feel-good campaign of public outreach and driver appreciation.
Inspectors conducted sustained inspection blitzes at over 300 locations in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance and federal officials are tabulating the inspection results and expect to make the statistics available in July.
Federal regulators also used the week to promote the idea that commercial vehicle safety needs the involvement of all segments of society.
During the five-day event, which is organized by FHWA, CVSA and the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, motorists saw No-Zone demonstrations and received brochures about driver fatigue and heard presentations on a wide variety of transportation safety topics such as work zones, rumble strips and rail grade crossings.
