Roads Reopen After Midwest Blizzard

Some roads in the upper Midwest reopened Tuesday after a blizzard caused officials to close highways due to crashes and low visibility.

Interstate 35 was closed throughout much of Iowa Monday, the Des Moines Register reported. The highway reopened between Ames, Iowa, and Albert Lea, Minn., Tuesday morning.

Farther north, I-29 reopened Tuesday between Grand Forks, N.D., and the Canadian border, after it was closed Monday, the WDAY radio station reported.

Stranded trucks continue to block the highway between Watertown, S.D., and the North Dakota border, WDAY said.

Officials throughout the blizzard area warned Tuesday that although visibility has improved, road conditions remain poor. Motorists are being advised to stay off roads if possible.
