Ryder San Francisco Fueling Facility Offers 100% Renewable Diesel
Ryder System Inc. has begun to offer renewable diesel fuel at its San Francisco fueling facility.
“San Francisco led the nation in 2015 by switching our entire municipal fleet to renewable diesel, and we’ve been engaging private and public sector fleets, including Ryder, on the benefits of renewable diesel since,” Debbie Raphael, director of San Francisco’s Department of the Environment, said in a statement.
Renewable diesel goes through a hydrotreating process instead of a transesterification process (like what is used to make biodiesel) through which an ASTM D975-compliant diesel product is created — one that is a better solution for fuel filters, elastomer seals and components and storage tanks, said Chris Nordh, Ryder’s director for global fuel products.
Based on production levels and availability of renewable diesel, other markets with plans for expanding this offering will continue to be monitored, Miami-based Ryder said.
Also, the company said it intends to analyze market opportunities that would benefit its customers to have RD available for their fleets — either through its fueling facilities or its new mobile fueling option that provides fuel deliveries directly into vehicles parked on customer sites, and is available in the United States and Canada.
Ryder, which said it purchases more than 275 million gallons of diesel fuel each year, provides other fuel services such as mobile fueling, fuel planning, fuel tax reporting, centralized billing, fuel cards and fuel monitoring.
