Safety Winners Sweat Details to Cut Accidents

The top three fleets that won this year’s American Trucking Associations President’s Trophies showed that by paying meticulous attention to safety details — not only to the mechanical aspects, but also to the human factors — they have developed championship environments.

In an Oct. 4 ceremony during ATA’s Safety Management Council meeting in St. Louis, FedEx Ground, Central Freight Lines and Ward Trucking Corp. were presented with the honors. The President’s Trophy recognizes fleets with low rates of accidents and superior safety programs.

FedEx Ground of Moon Township, Pa., was presented with the prize for large fleets running more than 100 million miles annually. Central Freight Lines of Waco, Texas, won for mid-sized fleets running between 25 and 100 million miles. Ward Trucking of Altoona, Pa., won for small fleets with fewer than 25 million miles.
